The endocrine system is a very crucial part in the functioning of the body. The endocrine system deals with regulation of hormones passed throughout the body, tissue function, regulates metabolism, growth and development, sexual function, reproduction, sleep and mood changes.
A large majority of the chemicals that have been identified as endocrine disruptors are pesticides (Mnif, 2). These pesticides can be found lingering in natural environments. Endocrine Disruptors function by binding to hormone receptors (androgen, estrogen) and mimicking the actions of the host receptor. According to the NCBI, endocrine disruptors can be linked to several different ailments including: ADHD, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, obesity, infertility, etc. Chemicals that induce these diseases can be found in common household items (Beyond Pesticides, 1).
According to ToxinAction.org, pesticides are a factor in helping cancer produce within a body. These cancers include cancers of the endocrine system (thyroid cancer)
